Winmx is a  peer to peer file sharing program, which enables users to download MP3s and other files from the net. it is one of the first  peer to peer file sharing client programs on the net, and at its peak reported more than 1 million subscribing users.  Later on newer and more advanced P2P networks gained more popularity, but winmx remained strong thanks to many loyal users with a  sense of community. in September 2005 the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) sent  letters to WinMX , threatening  litigation and demanding  they shut down ore make it impossible for users to download copyrighted material. On 20 September 2005 the winmx  Web site went off the net. But  a P2P network cannot be shut down through any one server, and Within a few days of the site shutdown, some   WinMX users identified several patches which helped restore users connections to the service – and so winmx is still operational. But in the future there seems to be no real chance for winmx free download, and it’s a matter of time until the network will close.
