Show background
Friends was produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions,
in association with Warner Bros. Television, for NBC in the
U.S., and was the first broadcast on that network. It debuted
on NBC on September 22, 1994, which was also one of its must-see
comedies throughout the show's run. For most of the run, the
series was also a Thursday night staple, competing with several
other shows, including Survivor, which dropped slightly in
the ratings in 2001. It was followed by daily syndication,
cable network TBS, among many other networks in numerous countries
throughout the world. The final episode aired on May 6, 2004,
which was one of the most watched series finale ever, only
behind M*A*S*H, Cheers, Home Improvement, Mad About You and
Seinfeld. "The Last One" however was higher rated
than the series finales of other notable shows, including
Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, Will & Grace and Sex
and the City.
