As most MySpace users are not professional web developers, this ability can cause problems. For example, many profiles have clashing colors and/or unreadable text. Because of this unrestricted customization of MySpace.com profiles, some profiles have been known to freeze certain browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, due to malformed HTML and/or CSS or users placement of videos and/or Flash animations on their profiles. In addition to users' misuse of HTML and CSS in their profiles, site MySpace.com itself produces antiquated, inefficient and standards-incompliant HTML.

A XSS vulnerability was recently revealed on Kuro5hin in an article called MySpace: A Place for Dolts.

MySpace may cause problems for those susceptible to internet addiction, and can cause "withdrawal" when shut down for long periods of time, as was the case during the 2005 Los Angeles power outage when MySpace's servers were down for most of the afternoon and well into the evening of September 12.
